THE PROGRAM –

The Northaven Prairie Crew – a collaborative effort between The Flow Project and Friends of Northaven Trail – is a paid internship program intended to create citizen scientists out of today’s youth. Over the course of nine weeks, selected students work alongside mentors from a variety of local environmental programs to restore the Blackland Prairie along the Northaven Trail by planting/nurturing species native to the area. Through this experience, crew members learn the ins and outs of conservation, gain valuable environmental career experience, and prepare to act as stewards of the environment for the rest of their lives.

THE EXPERIENCE –

This program is an incredibly hands-on, immersive experience. As members of the Northaven Prairie Crew, students work to grow and maintain the prairie restoration project, enhance and maintain the current pollinator beds, and regularly assess the water quality and biodiversity along the trail. The program is labor intensive, so as to develop strong skills and a deep understanding of what goes into environmental restoration and conservation. Activities include (but are not limited to) physical landscaping tasks, plant propagation, water quality testing, and plant and animal surveys.

the rewards –

  • Inspiration and mentorship for the next generation of climate leaders

  • Enriched conservation efforts in the North Texas area
